Vector Control Unit To Target Areas In St. Thomas & St. Michael

Communities in St. Thomas and St. Michael will be visited by the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ Vector Control Unit when it conducts its mosquito reduction programme next week.

The Unit will focus on St. Thomas for the first three days of the week before moving on to St. Michael. There will be no fogging exercise on Friday, April 18, which is a bank holiday.

On Monday, April 14, the following districts will be sprayed: White Hall Road, Cane Hill Terrace, Bon Road, Valley View, Country Side South, Country Side North, Shop Hill, Edgehill Heights Nos. 1 and 2, and Edgehill Terrace.

The team will go to Christie Village, Shop Hill, Grand View Heights, Edgehill Terrace, Melrose, Arthur Seat, and Cane Garden on Tuesday, April 15.

Mosquito breeding sites in Arthur Seat, Jackson Main Road, Browne’s Gap, Melrose Road, Vernon Edgar Drive, Chancery, Padmore Village Road, Welches Heights, and surrounding areas will be targeted on Wednesday, April 16.

The fogging exercise for the week will conclude in St. Michael, on Thursday, April 17, in Cane Garden, Emerald Drive, Ixora Crescent, Sunflower Drive, Croton Close, Jackson Main Road, Canewood Road, Cane Garden Park South, and View Drive.

Fogging takes place from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily. Householders are reminded to open their windows and doors to allow the spray to enter. Children should not be allowed to play in the fog.

Members of the public are advised that the completion of scheduled fogging activities may be affected by events beyond the Unit’s control. In such circumstances, the Unit will return to communities affected in the soonest possible time.
